Welcome to the good life in Sokndal!

The municipality of Sokndal is in many respects a unique place worthy of a visit. Here you will find the little extras you are looking for whether you are on vacation, making a short stopover, attending meetings or live in our municipality. Our municipality is situated on the coast with hardly any protection from the North Sea. There is quite a short distance from the shore till you are out in open sea among bountiful fishing places. Maybe you would rather try your fishing luck with both feet firmly placed on land ? Then you may choose between salmon fishing in our river Sokna or trout fishing in one of our many lakes. Or maybe you prefer diving along our coast?

We have many excursion choices in beautiful and varied surroundings. Marked paths. Berries and mushrooms. Mountain climbing.

Sokndal`s geology is special with rocks who is about 930 million years. These rock types are Noritt and Anorthositt. Sokndal is Norway`s largest mining municipality with the illmenite company Titania A/S and the stone quarry of Fjordstein, Rekefjord.

There are numerous sights: Protected wooden houses from the 1700 and 1800s at Sogndalstrand an old settlement. Jøssingfjord known for the Altmark affair during World War II, shut down mines in Blåfjell, the largest rocking boulder in Northern Europe, picturesque Nesvåg and many more.

Sokndal is the first member from Scandinavia in the international organization Cittaslow - good life in small towns. The main goal is to improve the quality of life and create a feeling of identity to the area. Sokndal does not have any visitors, but a lot of guests who visits.
